The Spiritual Alliance of Communities for Reproductive Dignity (SACReD) was born in a moment of acute crisis. Creating a burgeoning organization in the shadow of the systematic dismantling of reproductive healthcare, gender affirming care, and White Christian Nationalism has brought many challenges. Thanks to support from partner congregations, individuals, organizations, funders, and champions across the faith and reproductive justice movement, we have weathered these storms to be in a position of resource sustainability, despite the precarity of the current philanthropy landscape. We are deeply grateful and deeply tired, which is why we are taking a pause for the remainder of 2025.
We are in an apocalyptic season, and the chaos will not recede anytime soon. For SACReD to live in alignment with our values of justice, joy, compassion, and wholeness, we must commit to this sabbath. We need deep investments in our internal infrastructure. Creating a strategic plan will enable us to show up with clarity and integrity. We need more security measures to protect our staff, board members, and everyone who participates in SACReD’s work. We need a clear organizing plan so that we can connect our folks across the movement with stable capacity. As a small team, we cannot do this bigger picture planning and continue to offer our programming and partnership at the same pace we have sustained these past three years.
So, what does this mean?
SACReD Programs
- All SACReD-initiated programming will be paused until February 2026. We will consider 2026 programming and requests starting in January.
- We will not hold another A SACReD Journey Curriculum training until 2026.
- The next SACReD Gathering will take place 2027, with planning resuming in 2026.
Partnerships
- We are still launching the Faithful Futures training series with the Renewed Clergy Consultation Service.
- We are in direct communication and collaboration with our ongoing partners. We will not be present at conferences, speaking engagements, and coalition spaces.
Communications
- We are streamlining our newsletter, emails, and social media communications, focusing on SACReD-specific information. We are not able to amplify partner messages in this season.
- We will not participate in media projects for this time.
- It will take us longer to get back to you as we intentionally turn inward to tend to ourselves as individuals and the organization.
- We will not respond to current events with statements, interviews, or blog posts as has become our norm. That does not mean that we are not watching, listening, praying, and learning. We still care deeply for people around the world, through joy, suffering, and everything in between; even while honoring our own capacity to be responsive
We are grateful to be in a position where we can make this bold decision to pause in a world that valorizes productivity to the point of burnout. While we see our work as a calling, sacrificing our bodies, relationships, and time on the altar of capitalism is not something we have committed to. Thank you for being a part of what has made this possible. We have always said that we are invested in the multi-decade struggle to challenge the forces of White Christian Nationalism that are attacking our communities. In order for us to stay in this struggle, we need to take a season for rest, reflection, and re-grouping.
You may reach out to either of the Co-Directors ([email protected]) if you have any questions or words of wisdom. Thank you for your understanding, support, flexibility, and grace in this time. We look forward to sharing more with you in early 2026.
In Solidarity,
Rev. Iya Latishia James & Rev. Angela Tyler-Williams
